Police Headquarters issues security guideline for peaceful celebration of Durga Puja

Police Headquarters issued a security guideline today (Sunday, October 6) to ensure the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, the largest festival of the Hindu Community.

"Bangladesh police has already made enough security arrangements to hold the Durga Puja in a safe, peaceful, and festive manner. Bangladesh police is committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring security of the people's lives and properties, " the statement said.

Apart from the measures, the police has issued a guideline for making security foolproof. In the guideline, all, particularly devotees, have been asked to maintain caution as none can harm religious harmony and social peace by spreading rumors or misleading information on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogs, or mobile phones. If any such situation is created, inform the police immediately, the statement said.

Police has also suggested setting up separate entry gates for men and women and resisting anyone from entering the puja mandaps with bags. They have also suggested installing CCTVs, fire-distinguishing equipment, and archway gates in the pavilions. The statement said that the police should arrange appropriate lighting at puja mandaps, if possible, keep standby generators and hijack lights, and refrain from blowing up firecrackers or polka (mini explosives).

The police headquarters requested to appoint volunteers to ensure security for the puja mandaps and give them separate dresses, visible identity cards, and arm bands inscribed with volunteers. It also asked that selected routes be used for the rallies of the Durga Puja.

If any police help is required, communicate over the following phone numbers: Police Headquarters Control Room: 0223380661, 0223381967, 01320001299, and 01320001300; DMP Control Room: 02223355500 and 01817602050; Dhakeshwari Mondir 9611353 and 01705505529; RAB Control Room 01777720029; and Fire Service Central Control Room 02223355555, 01713038181, 01713038182, and 01730336699.
